Pipe Band Drum Major instruction is for absolute beginners to those with some experience. Different than marching band or American military drum major, the history and duties of the pipe band drum major will be discussed as well as how to wear the uniform, how to make a practice mace, leading the band in formation and parades, proper turns, basic hand and mace commands, simple flourishing, etc.
Drum Major students will have sectional and group classes. At the end of the day we will go outside for marching exercises where you will showcase what you have learned! After that we will come back inside for a ceilidh!
Frank Holifield is the current Drum Major for Hub City Highlanders. He joined the band as a bagpiper in 2018 and made the switch to Drum Major in 2023.
